My work visualizes the impact of intimate, first-hand experiences. It
is a collision between the immediate and the mythic, revealing
unexpected aspects of situations often experienced or observed. I
present viewers with choices and then let them resolve their own
personal reactions, which may be troubling. All of this occurs under
an exuberant veneer of color, line, and pattern; but underneath lurk
elements of irony and humor. In my practice I strive to capture the
fleeting moment, as if in a frozen, cinematic frame that unexpectedly
exposes the emotional fault lines of what is usually thought of as
normal life.
